The ambition for the renovation project was to make this national monument sustainable and suitable for today’s life style, while the history and the spatial structure remain recognizable and legible. Between old and new, as well as between tradition and modernism, a careful choosed palette of honest materials was used in the loft in order to re-energize the disappearing glory.
Together with her previous team at Heyligers D+P, Shuying worked on the concept and technique development phases for the transformation of the beautiful canal house, a place full of memories – she has once worked as a trainee 14 year ago in this building before her designer’s career started.
