Sylda Studio is an Amsterdam-based architecture and interior design practice creating bespoke residential, hospitality, and commercial spaces across the Netherlands and beyond. We believe architecture is shaped by more than form alone. It emerges from the careful dialogue between space, light, materiality, context, and the people who inhabit it. OUR DESIGN APPROACH
Every project is unique, but our approach remains consistent. We begin by listening. Understanding how people live, work, and experience space forms the basis of every design decision.
Through research, sketches, site analysis, and continuous dialogue, we uncover opportunities that are often hidden within the existing building or landscape. Rather than following trends, we seek lasting architectural solutions that combine simplicity, warmth, and careful detailing. We believe that exceptional spaces emerge through the integration of architecture, interiors, materials, light, and craftsmanship—not as separate disciplines, but as one coherent design language. Throughout the process we work closely with clients, engineers, contractors, and specialist makers, ensuring that creative ambition is matched by technical quality and practical execution.
Founder and lead architect Shuying brings more than fifteen years of professional experience across Europe and Asia, combining architectural training with a background in fine arts. This interdisciplinary foundation allows the studio to move comfortably between architecture, interiors, furniture, and visual storytelling. Years of practice in the Netherlands have also enabled Sylda Studio to establish a trusted network of contractors, engineers, craftspeople, and suppliers. This close collaboration allows projects to move smoothly from concept through construction while maintaining the integrity of the original design.
FROM CONCEPT TO COMPLETION
Concept Design
This phase begins with ideas. Based on your aspirations and initial brief, I translate key concepts into preliminary layouts, mood boards, sketches, and visual references. The goal is to build a shared vision — a strong functional and aesthetic foundation that defines the direction of the project.
Preliminary Design
Once the concept is aligned, the design is developed in greater depth. At this stage, you’ll begin to experience the space through 2D plans and 3D visualizations. Layouts, atmospheres, and spatial qualities are refined, and I introduce proposals for materials, furniture, and fittings. Together, we shape a design that feels both cohesive and expressive of your intent.
Final Design
In the final design stage, the project is translated into a comprehensive drawing and documentation set, ensuring clarity and feasibility during construction. These detailed documents — including ceiling layouts, lighting and electrical plans, and material specifications — are shared with you and the contractor to maintain precision and alignment throughout the technical phase.
Aesthetic Guidance
As the project moves into construction, I remain actively involved to preserve the design’s integrity. I assist with supplier selection, coordinate with contractors, and review final material and technical choices. Flexibility is key, as on-site adjustments are often required; I work collaboratively to ensure that every solution remains true to the design vision. Site visits and aesthetic supervision are part of this dynamic phase — when ideas materialize and the design comes vividly to life.
FRAMEWORK & COLLABORATION
Clear communication, professional collaboration, and coordination between all parties are an essential part of our way of working. Throughout the different phases of the project, we work closely with clients, consultants, contractors, and suppliers to ensure a clear and well-organized design and construction process.
For projects in the Netherlands, our professional services are provided in accordance with DNR 2025 (De Nieuwe Regeling 2025), the standard terms and conditions for architects, designers, and consulting engineers. This established professional framework provides clear agreements regarding responsibilities, liabilities, intellectual property, and the scope of services, ensuring transparency and confidence throughout every phase of the project.
For international projects, Sylda Studio adapts its services to the applicable legislation, professional standards, and contractual frameworks of the respective country. We collaborate closely with local consultants, engineers, and authorities where required, ensuring compliance with local regulations while maintaining the same high standards of design quality, technical expertise, and project coordination that define our practice.
