This originally designed two-bedroom apartment in Amsterdam’s Javastraat neighborhood needed to work for a family of four. With nearly 100 square meters and a great location, the owners chose to stay rather than move to the countryside, where housing is more affordable.
The challenge was to rethink the layout—creating an extra, comfortable bedroom while reshaping the living space felt like solving a puzzle. The result is a home that still feels open and generous, with a spacious kitchen connected to the living room and an adjacent TV area for more relaxed moments. Acoustic comfort is thoughtfully built into the redesign, and reusing the existing spaces as much as possible was an important part of the process for the owners.
